Sculptural Corian® Ceiling System

Project Overview

In this private residence, the ceiling is not treated as a background element. It defines the entire space.

Designed above an indoor pool, this sculptural ceiling transforms Corian® into a fully integrated architectural feature. The goal was to create something immersive and dynamic, without overwhelming the environment.

Rather than applying lighting to the surface, the design required light to be embedded within it, becoming part of the structure itself.

The Design Challenge

The design team at P&H Interiors set out to achieve a balance between movement and control. The ceiling needed to:

• Create visual impact without overpowering the space
• Integrate lighting seamlessly within the form
• Maintain a clean, continuous appearance across all panels
• Perform consistently in both daylight and nighttime conditions

This required more than a traditional surface application. It called for a system-based approach to design and fabrication.

The Solution

Working in collaboration with Audio Visual Design Group, M|R Walls developed a custom carved Corian® ceiling system built around a programmable droplet pattern.

Each element of the system was engineered to:

• Precisely house integrated LED lighting within carved geometries
• Control light diffusion across the surface
• Maintain seamless transitions between panels
• Coordinate with AV and lighting systems from the earliest design stages

By combining fabrication, lighting, and installation into a single process, the team ensured both design intent and performance were fully realized.

The Result

The finished ceiling evolves throughout the day.

Daytime brings subtle texture and dimensional movement.
Evening transforms the space into a fully immersive lighting feature integrated into the architecture.

The result is a cohesive environment where surface, structure, and light work together as one system.

Material Spotlight: Corian® Solid Surface

This project highlights the versatility of Corian® beyond traditional applications. Its ability to be carved, shaped, and seamlessly joined makes it ideal for complex, custom features.

When treated as a system rather than a sheet material, Corian® enables:

• Integrated lighting applications
• Continuous, joint free surfaces
• Highly customizable architectural elements
